We are studying genetic forms of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. Neurodevelopmental disorders affect millions of people and are often refractory to treatments. A significant number of these have shown to have a dissent genetic basis. With DNA sequencing being more accessible, more disease-causing genes have been recognized by analyzing the genomes of many patients. Our lab studies the effect of disorder-causing genetic mutations at the system, cellular and molecular level. In addition, we are looking into the role of genes linked to neurodevelopmental disorders to better understand the human brain.
